Just the Sip: Knob Creek Single Barrel r/bourbon Pick “Brown Sugar Bonanza” Review
Just the Sip reviews are a more simplified version of the existing scoresheet format with the goal of reviewing more spirits, such as samples, barrel picks, and others that may be more difficult to do full reviews on. Both scoresheet and review formats will exist and be regularly posted. Learn more…

Maker’s Mark 46 Scoresheet & Review
Popular distilleries with a narrow range of bottles can be a blessing when you review whiskey for a hobby and have a relatively limited budget. The same could also apply to whiskey-curious consumers since they only need to parse through a handful of bottles in order to land on a…

Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged (2023) Scoresheet & Review
What’s the first word that comes to mind when you think of Maker’s Mark? Antiquated? Reliable? Stubborn? Tasty? Chances are, it’s a combination of words, and the four listed all quickly spring to my mind. To that end, Maker’s Mark’s guiding principle is their “flavor vision” of simply making enjoyable…

Baker’s Single Barrel Scoresheet & Review
Baker’s has long been one of Jim Beam’s most unsung brands. The brand, named after the “quiet and independent-minded” Baker Beam, began as a small batch bourbon in the distillery’s small batch collection, along with Knob Creek, Booker’s, and Basil Hayden. It boasted a 7-year age statement and came bottled…

Knob Creek Cask Strength Rye Batch 2 Scoresheet & Review
Jim Beam had no shortage of new products to entice drinkers between 2019 and 2020. On top of several permanent and limited bourbon releases, the Clermont-based distillery also brought a slew of rye whiskey releases under the Knob Creek and Old Overholt labels. In the case of Knob Creek, consumers…

Old Overholt 114 Scoresheet & Review
Beam Suntory’s general reluctance to do much of anything with their three “The Olds” brands is one of the more puzzling realities for whiskey enthusiasts. Of the trio, Old Overholt has technically received the most attention from the parent company, but even it exists in the shadow of the brand’s…

Knob Creek Single Barrel 9-Year Scoresheet & Review
Single barrels are all the rage these days. Much of this is thanks to the prominence of barrel picks selected by everyone from local and online groups to independent stores, retail chains, and online outlets. Even before these selections exploded in popularity, the rule of thumb was to grab one…

Maker’s Mark 46 Cask Strength Scoresheet & Review
Maker’s Mark frequently finds its way into my collection. Their core lineup is available, affordable, and of competent quality, yet they’re hardly in rarefied company these days. Much of the interest surrounding Maker’s Mark from present-day whisky lovers can be traced back to the introduction of Maker’s Mark 46. The…

Jim Beam White Label Scoresheet & Review
You know what I love about readily available and affordable whiskey? It’s easy to return to. That may sound silly and blatant, but when you’re more of an exploratory hobbyist, having familiar options you can readily come back to is comforting. All fans start somewhere, and when all is said…

Maker’s Mark Scoresheet & Review
Being a whisky hobbyist in a booming market means it’s often easy to lose sight of the everyday stalwarts. Not to say this isn’t understandable; once these common options have been explored the curious mind seeks further ventures. Yet there can be value in returning to basics, if for nothing…

Maker’s Mark 2021 Wood Finishing Series (FAE-02) Scoresheet & Review
Maker’s Mark is one of my favorite distilleries. That’s not exactly an unpopular opinion, given the brand’s iconic look and penchant for consistency. However, my appreciation for Maker’s Mark largely comes from their uniquely finished products, namely the Private Selections and Wood Finishing Series. Rather than taking their whisky and…

Knob Creek Single Barrel Norman’s Liquors Pick Scoresheet & Review
Nostalgia and hindsight make for one hell of a combination. It wasn’t long ago that folks were singing praise for Knob Creek Single Barrel picks sitting on shelves, some of them as old as 16 years. Yet bourbon continues to boom, and it was only a matter of time before…
